I'm convinced that midwesterners know how to take advantage of good weather better than anyone else. We're so conditioned for misery, that even a single shred of sunlight calls for a parade. In the Midwest, you get used to long stretches of cold, wet, horribleness. It becomes your time to self-reflect, go inward, and not worry about making plans. But as soon as the sun crests its head from behind the clouds, it's our time to shine. All that pent-up energy from wintertime gets released at once. We barbecue til our tongs break. We set up slip and slides on unbearably bumpy concrete. We eat so much ice cream that we have to be wheeled home from the Culvers. It's a wonderful boom and bust cycle.
And I'm happy to report that we're beginning to boom. Just like these memes. Get 'em while the sun is still shining, because you never know when it's gonna go away.
