The wonderful thing about science fiction is that it gives us an alternate world to our own. I don't know about you guys, but I get bored of this planet sometimes. Earth is just so… predictable sometimes. Sure, nature is beautiful and fascinating, but I've grown pretty accustomed to my surroundings, my stretch of the world, my slice of life. Sci-fi gives us fully fleshed-out worlds that are different than ours. They have different rules. Maybe gravity works differently. Maybe there, people have gills and tails. Maybe intergalactic space travel is as easy as catching the bus.
Maybe there are all-knowing computers and robot butlers (Okay, I think we're pretty close to that in this world). But we love sci-fi because it takes us away and shows us that there are different possibilities. And guess what? So do memes. And they happen to make us laugh while doing so. How about that?
