Yaāll. This October will mark the ten-year anniversary of Hit Point launching Neko Atsume, the adorable kitty collecting sim that has become a runaway success and essentially created a sub-genre of cozy pet-collecting life sim games. Sure, the English version didnāt arrive until about a year later, but still, where does the time go? Anyway, a decade is a long time to keep a mobile game running, especially when itās a game that the developer likely didnāt expect to take off the way it did and didnāt anticipate having to maintain for years and years to come. Because of this, and in celebration of the gameās 10th anniversary, Hit-Point has announced that a sequel is in the works and set to release this summer. The sequel is calledā¦ Neko Atsume 2! Who could have seen that coming?
Itās not clear if the summer release window also includes places outside of Japan, but given how popular the series is now Iād kind of think theyād want to release globally, but thatās just my guess. Thereās also some information on the newly-launched Neko Atsume portal website regarding the existing game. They mention that they will continue updating the original game to the best of their ability but that their focus will be on the sequel, as it sounds like this new game will be designed from the ground up with frequent content updates and long-term support in mind. I look forward to seeing how my kitty-collecting virtual life will be enhanced when Neko Atsume 2 launches later this year. Please look forward to it too.
