It has been a while since we wrote about Fortnite and iOS hasnā€™t it? If you missed the news from a few years ago, Fortnite was pulled from iOS back in 2020, and it led to many things. Epic sued Apple, we had tons of console-related information revealed during the lawsuit, and more. Fast forward to now, and Epic announced that it had secured a developer account and planned to bring the Epic Games Store to iOS. This was announced because Apple finally had to allow third-party app stores on iOS in the EU after the new Digital Markets Act regulation. Today, Epic has announced (via The Verge) that Apple has terminated its developer account so it cannot develop the Epic Games Store for iOS.

Apple called Epic ā€œverifiably untrustworthy" as shown in a letter sent by Appleā€™s lawyers to Epic. Apple doesnā€™t think Epic will comply with the contractual commitments under the developer agreement. Apple originally terminated Epicā€™s developer agreement back in 2020 which meant Fortnite and more wouldnā€™t be on iOS. Epic has a few games and apps on iOS through other partners or its other companies like Horizon Chase 2 and Wonderbox on Apple Arcade from Aquiris (now known as Epic Games Brazil). It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out, and I imagine we will not be seeing Fortnite on iOS anytime soon. It did return through Xbox Cloud Gaming before. What do you think of this update on the ongoing Fortnite and Epic vs Apple situation?
